Sandford Award Winners 2023
Wed, 28 September 2023
We are very pleased to announce that Cardiff Castle has won a Sandford Award for quality in heritage learning for a fourth time. Valid for five years, until 2028, we are absolutely delighted to have repeated this achievement, following on from our previous award in 2017.
The Sandford Award’s assessor, Jan Barratt, who was very impressed by the learning programmes on offer at the site and felt that they were worthy of commendation by the scheme, said:
Cardiff Castle offers an excellent education programme covering 2000 years of history, delivered by a dedicated and committed staff. Great care is taken to ensure schools meet their learning goals and have an enjoyable and memorable visit that complements classroom learning. The delivery of sessions is outstanding, showing a clear understanding of how to meet the needs of individual groups. The Education Officer is passionate about the Castle and its history which clearly shows in the service that is offered to schools.
Huge congratulations to Cardiff Castle’s Education & Events Officer, Elizabeth Stevens, and every member of the team who have been recognised for delivering an outstanding level of service in our educational programme and providing value to our visitors.
Whether you are studying the Romans, Normans, castles, Victorians, or the Home Front and World War II, you will find plenty to keep your pupils engrossed both whilst visiting Cardiff Castle and during preparation and follow-up work at school.
We are always looking at ways of developing our educational service and welcome any questions and suggestions that teachers, and other educational professionals, might have about our offer.
