October Half Term at Cardiff Castle

If you’re looking for something to do this October half-term week, then you should definitely consider a day out at Cardiff Castle.

As well as the Castle itself, there are some great half-term kids activities going on that are sure to provide fun for the whole family. With it also being Halloween week, what better way to raise your spirits than by attending one of our frightfully good events at Cardiff Castle!

BLACK TOWER TALES

Are you ready to hear the Black Tower Tales? An exciting new family attraction, this audio visual experience reveals the story of Llywelyn Bren, a forgotten hero of medieval Welsh history. Following a brave struggle against the oppressive Sheriff of Glamorgan, Llywelyn was gruesomely murdered in the very same Black Tower where you will hear this chilling tale. Meet the ghosts of long ago as this immersive experience brings some truly horrible history to life in a way you won’t soon forget.

Black Tower Tales runs every half hour, throughout the day. Find out about our guided tours or ask at the Castle’s ticket office.

HALLOWEEN UNDERGROUND CINEMA

We are devilishly delighted that the Underground Cinema is returning to Cardiff Castle this Halloween with a frightfully fantastic line-up of your favourite freaky films. Join us in the Castle’s atmospheric 15th century Undercroft for some monstrously good family movies, curated by our friends at Darkened Rooms. Tickets are £8.25 for adults and £5.25 for children.

Many screenings are already sold out and tickets are selling fast, so please book early to avoid disappointment.

FIRING LINE MUSEUM

This October half-term is a great time to check out the Firing Line military museum at Cardiff Castle. Alongside their fascinating exhibits, they are also running a series of free half-term activities for children. In addition, as part of of the Welsh Museums Festival, there are also storytelling and writing workshops with Peter Cornelious, author of First World War story, ‘Poppy’. Admission to these is also free but advance booking is required, see below.

Entry to Firing Line Museum is included with your Castle admission ticket, or with a Castle Key.

THE PUBLIC SQUARE

If you’re planning on coming to Cardiff during half-term week, even without visiting the Castle, remember that you can still come and relax in the Public Square. The Castle grounds provide a lovely spot to relax after hitting the shops, or to catch up with friends and family in a stunning, socially distanced setting.

A selection of meals, light bites and hot and cold drinks will be available from The Keep Terrace kitchen and bar. You can also pop in to the Castle’s Gift Shop, where you will find a selection of gifts, souvenirs and local produce.

Admission to the Public Square is free during the Castle’s opening hours.
