VISIT CARDIFF CASTLE SAFELY
Cardiff Castle is now open to visitors again and we simply cannot wait to welcome you back in a safe and responsible fashion.
To help control visitor numbers, everybody (including Castle Key and Annual Pass holders) will be required to book a timed arrival slot in advance. Tickets will be made available for booking every Friday for the following week.
Certain areas of the Castle will remain closed due to social distancing and we will not be offering any guided tours until further notice. Please make sure to check back here for the latest updates before planning your visit.
Ahead of reopening, we have put a number of new safety measures in place. We request that all visitors please respect the rules and guidelines, for your own protection and the safety of others. Those that do not follow the guidelines may be approached by staff and may be asked to leave. Abuse of any kind will not be tolerated.
HOW TO BOOK
- Tickets on sale every Friday at 10am for the following week (Mon – Sun) online only
- Available timeslots are 10:00 / 12:00 / 14:00
- Each timeslot has a capacity of 70 admission tickets and 70 keyholder slots
- Any remaining tickets can be purchased from the ticket office on the day of visit but we recommend booking in advance to avoid disappointment

We promise to keep you safe by:
✔ Giving a warm welcome at a distance
✔ Patrolling our site to monitor guest activity
✔ Using one-way systems
✔ Our staff will wear gloves and use screens at pay kiosks
✔ Operating a cashless system
✔ Using mobile toilet and catering facilities positioned outside
What we ask of you in return to show you care:
✔ Keep two metres away from other guests
✔ Wash your hands for 20 seconds after using facilities
✔ Use the hand sanitiser dispensers at every opportunity
We would kindly ask you not to visit us if:
✘ You have had contact with anybody who has tested for COVID-19 in the last 14 days
✘ If you have had any symptoms of illness (cough, sniffles, sore throat or fever) in the last 14 days
Frequently Asked Questions
- The Castle is currently open from 10:00 – 18:00
- Yes, there will be open toilet facilities with hand washing and hand sanitiser available.
- Yes, you can still sign-up for a new Castle Key or renew an existing one at the ticket office. Because we had to close during lockdown, we’re even adding an extra 3 months to the lifespan of all new Key cards and renewals until March 2023.
- Yes, the Castle cafe will be serving both hot and cold drinks, as well as some light refreshments to be consumed in the outdoor seating area.
- Pets are allowed in to the public square. Although pets are not usually allowed, this restriction has been temporarily lifted while the Castle is open as a public space.
- Bikes are allowed in to the public square. Although we don’t usually allow bikes in to the grounds, this restriction has been temporarily lifted while the Castle is open as a public space.
- The Castle’s outer green is open, free of charge, visitors are welcome to come in and relax on the lawn or use the socially distanced tables and chairs. The Castle’s interiors are not currently open to the public, nor are we able to offer any guided tours or audio guides. Closed areas include the Castle Apartments, Norman Keep and Firing Line Museum.
- We have no date for reopening the Castle as a visitor attraction at the moment, we will continue to follow Government advice and guidance and look forward to welcoming visitors when it is safe and responsible to do so.
